Day 71 – Pastel sea

I was very busy with my camera today. I got out for sunrise then came home and cleaned my camera sensor, seven sensor swabs later, and headed back out for some sunset images. The one above was one of the last images I made today. Walking back in from the cliff I was on I turned around for no particular reason and saw the sea. I just had to unpack the camera and take a few more images. I lake the pastel colors in this.

Much as I love landscape photography I’m finding it tough going now so I’m looking for a landscpe photography course. At the moment I’m checking David Notons course list and images.

I’ve been trying to come to terms with the idea of building a brand. Now that I’m writing this I think I’m jumping the gunĀ  a bit so I need to go back to my plan again.

A few other images from today.

Day 70 – the calm within

I left it very late to go take some landscape photos today. As is quite usual I didn’t have a specific plan or destination in mind so I just headed in the direction of the coast. I ended up in a place called Ballycronnin.
In my rushing about I messed up when the best light was there. I miss focused, set the aperture incorrectly for the effect I wanted and just generally stumbled my way through the evenings photo session.I think i managed a few keepers though.

I’m looking at some coastal photography to try and improve my own.I’m also just about to watch a TV show on abandoned building photography.

I read about a photographer using redbubble to sell his images that he posts on his blog. It’s something I hadn’t even thought of before so I spent a bit of time looking at that redbubble and fotomoto.

One of the messed up images – it came out ok

Day 69 – Kilcrea Friary

I took an early trip out to this location but the weather didn’t play as I had hoped. It’s an old Friary / Abbey in Cork. I’ve tried to get a good image here a few times but I always leave it to the last minute to find a spot.

I tried searching out other images of Kilcrea Abbey today to see what others have done before me.

As I’m post this early today I have yet to do this task. I’ll probably read some more tonight.

I took a walk in Ballincollig park at lunch today looking for some nice ferns to photo but ended up going abstract. I love shooting abstract.

I’m still glued to Dane Sanders book. I’ve been trying to figure out which area of photography I would be best suited to.

On another note I went printing mad today. A lot of people have been asking for prints of images I’ve made so I felt it was about time to deliver.

Day 67 – Toned

I seem to be in a black and white frame of mind since downloading Silver Efex Pro recently but I’m shooting with it in mind and not just converting everything.

Any images I make with it in mind I move into a lightroom collection called “possible black and white” I then quickly desaturate the image (press V) to get an idea of how it’s going to look and then remove the ones that don’t make the grade. The remaining images are resaturated (press V) and then processed. It works for me.

Today I checked out some of the new images in the wedding portfolio of Irish photographer David Lavery. I took a really enjoyable an evening photography course given by David last year. If anyone feels the need for an evening course check out his photography course in Cork College of Commerce.

If only he would run weekend wedding photography courses…. hint hint David.

So today has been really interesting, for me anyway. I have totally stopped with my plan for now and am concentrating on the advice and information in Fast Track Photographer for the next few days. It’s already changing the way I was planning to do things. I’m along the same path as what I have read so far but every few pages I get one of those “ah ha” moments.

If you are thinking of buying the book better buy it fast. Use the code ‘gobblegobble’ but be quick the offer is almost over.

Day 66 – The Clearing

I can’t believe I never noticed this before. I walk right past it a few times a week during my lunch break but never saw it before today. I think I’ll bring my tripod with me to work some day and get this properly. It’s quite dark here and I found it hard to get an image with sufficient depth when hand held.

After yesterdays post I was about to log off and go to bed when I read a tweet from Dane Sanders. He was about to have one of his live coaching events with ex-googler Jennifer Yew. Well I had seen one before and decided it might be worth staying up to watch it. Boy am I glad I did. That 30 minute show possibly did more for me than I did for myself over the past week or two. Half way through the show I realized I forgot to order his book the last time I was on the site. I checked amazon and had the book in my cart waiting until the show was over to finish my order. Then came the best bit, Dane announced that the book was going to be offered at 50% off on his site until Friday 26th November. All you need to do is watch the video to get the promotion code at the end. It’s worth watching for the advice alone.

I ordered the book and got a pdf version of it too while I wait for it to be delivered. Great advice in there from what I have read so far.

Day 65 – Loop

I not sure what I was trying to achieve here this evening. I was just experimenting with light. I started off trying to get an image of the cogs of my bike and ended up standing on the table shooting the curtain pole. How I got from one subject on the floor to the other almost touching the ceiling is unknown.

I did nothing for this today but think about my next steps while cleaning out the garden shed in preparation for two tonnes of firewood being delivered tomorrow. I guess I’ll be doing a lot of thinking tomorrow while I move them from the driveway around to the shed.

I think I need one of those large wall calendars so I can identify some key dates and targets to aim for.
