Day 98 – Gift tag

Being stuck indoors isn’t all bad if you have a macro lens, think I might be using this image for next years gift tags. Still I’d rather have been out making landscape images.

For the past few mornings I have been looking at the patterns of frost on my car before leaving for work. This morning I tried to capture it.

Day 93 – Aww nuts!

I was out most of today and was disappointed I hadn’t made an image. While eating a handfull of pistachio nuts I thought they might make an image quite appropriate for today. I’m also slightly addicted to them so the number of nuts got smaller with each photo.

Took a look at some of my friend images of Baltimore beacon from my our there last week. That was the first time I ever went out shooting with another person.

Day 87 – Heavy Machinery

I always find when I stick on a macro lens I get lost and can spend hours just moving around very slowly, like a sloth.

The image is of an old heavy drill, I couldn’t even guess how old but it still works.

I had a bit of a light bulb moment today when I was trying to figure out why my landscapes had no oomph,¬† is that even a word. So I brought a few up on my monitor and then flipped through many landscape photography books and then it hit me. How stupid I felt when I realized where I was going so wrong, seeing the same ‘mistake’ repeatedly. I’m not going to say now where I believe I’m going wrong, you will just have to wait until this weekend to see if I can prove it to myself.

I picked up a few boring but necessary information leaflets from banks and looked up insurance providers.

Day 75 – Frosty Friday

I just noticed that I take way too many images in portrait mode. I should really get a grip for my camera to make it easier. I really wanted to get down lower for this one but wearing a suit and trying to take macro shots doesn’t mix very well.

It rained most of today so I read some of First Light, A landscape photographer’s art by Joe Cornish. In the book he explains what he was trying to achieve in the images and provides another image of the same scene taken in different circumstances. I learn best by seeing and doing so find this type style of book suit me best.

And for anyone paying attention , yes I read about three or four different books at the same time. I even keep a book in the car for occasions when I can’t get out for a walk.

Today I’m looking at the area of marketing. Some may think it’s too soon for this but I don’t. I believe marketing is critical from the early stages. Today is just a brain storming session with myself to come up with a few idea and to research some already successful methods.

Right now “Little and Often” will be my approach to marketing. I’m of the frame of mind that you need to keep people interested and not to let them wander off to the next guy. It’s a bit like fishing, you throw some loose feed into the swim (area you are fishing) to attrach the fish. Then you throw a little more feed in regularly, little and often. This keeps the fish in your swim while you catch them one by one.

Day 73 – Flat pack or firewood

Another quick and dirty image today. I was about to load up the stove but took a moment to capture this first. It’s hard to photo a dirty glove on its own, I tried but didn’t manage it. Yesterdays road trip resulted in a a room full of flat pack shelving that isn’t going to assemble itself. I always think of it as lego for grown ups. I used to love lego as a child.

Page 86, Self timer operation. I use this when I’m getting the cable release out of my bag. Then I usually forget to turn it off after I have plugged in the cable and sometimes miss the moment. But there is always another moment around the corner.

Roger Overall. He has a beautiful way of capturing the moment.

Some people may not see this as completing this task for today. I however believe that an organized space is a more¬† productive place, so today I am assembling the flat pack shelving I bought yesterday. If you could see my desk now you would agree that it’s needed.

Day 72 – Flower

Just a simple quick image of a flower. I was away most of the day today without my camera and had to do a bit of a rush shoot and post. It’s a bunch of flowers from the supermarket, a house plant in the background and an off camera flash shot through an umbrella.

I downloaded another one of David Duchemins ebooks a few days ago and will be reading it in bed shortly. I expect the images will be up to his usual excellent standard.

A seven hour drive today gave me plenty of time to think about different ideas and to take on board what I have read in Dane Sanders book. I just need to write some of them down now before I forget.
