Day 87 – Heavy Machinery

December 16, 2009 2 comments

I always find when I stick on a macro lens I get lost and can spend hours just moving around very slowly, like a sloth.

The image is of an old heavy drill, I couldn’t even guess how old but it still works.

I had a bit of a light bulb moment today when I was trying to figure out why my landscapes had no oomph,  is that even a word. So I brought a few up on my monitor and then flipped through many landscape photography books and then it hit me. How stupid I felt when I realized where I was going so wrong, seeing the same ‘mistake’ repeatedly. I’m not going to say now where I believe I’m going wrong, you will just have to wait until this weekend to see if I can prove it to myself.

Work towards self employment

I picked up a few boring but necessary information leaflets from banks and looked up insurance providers.

Day 81 – Sweet tooth

It was funny trying to make this image tonight. As soon as I opened the wrapper a few people mysteriously appeared in the room. Eyes wide open and mouths watering I had a tough job fighting them off while trying to make an image. As you can see one of them was too quick quick for me and grabbed a chocolate.

I am also trying to make more images in landscape format as I have a habit of going straight for portrait.

I looked through a photography magazine and studied the images in an article about photography in dull sky lighting conditions. The landscape photographer was Jeremy Moore.

I practiced crowd control keeping women away from chocolate, but failed.

I’m researching the different upcoming “Start your own business” courses.

Day 71 – Pastel sea

I was very busy with my camera today. I got out for sunrise then came home and cleaned my camera sensor, seven sensor swabs later, and headed back out for some sunset images. The one above was one of the last images I made today. Walking back in from the cliff I was on I turned around for no particular reason and saw the sea. I just had to unpack the camera and take a few more images. I lake the pastel colors in this.

Much as I love landscape photography I’m finding it tough going now so I’m looking for a landscpe photography course. At the moment I’m checking David Notons course list and images.

I’ve been trying to come to terms with the idea of building a brand. Now that I’m writing this I think I’m jumping the gun  a bit so I need to go back to my plan again.

Day 62 – Back to nature

I managed to get out to the coast again today but unfortunately couldn’t get anything I was happy with. I processed this image using Sliver Efex Pro. I haven’t a clue what I’m doing with that software, just downloaded a demo version of it today to see what it was like.

Nothing exciting to report here just more reading and researching.

Day 49 – On the beach

I managed to get a few hours on a beach today. As you can see from the picture it was a mixed weather type of day here today. It’s great to be able to get outside in the daylight on the weekends.

Day 35 – Landscape

The image is of an old ruin by The Old Head of Kinsale. I photographed this building a few times before but was never happy with any of the images I mad of it. I’m happy enough with this one but I feel there is room for improvement.

(I’m posting this so late it looks like I missed posting  on the 25th of October. Must be daylight savings time getting mixed up.)

I should be given a telling off today. This is the second time I haven’t satisfied this section of the challenge. I did however look a load of images made by an Irish army priest stationed in Pristina. Some fantastic stuff. I wish I could point people to the images but they are on a cd belonging to friend of mine just back from serving a few months out there. Does this satisfy part of the challenge…. I’m not sure.

Day 34 – Failed to plan

All week in work I wait for the weekend to go out taking making landscape images. So, today, after much procrastination I headed off with the intention of finding something great. There lies the problem, I went out to find something. No matter how many times I do this I never seem to learn that I need to first research what or where I intend to shoot. So again today I burnt up a load of petrol and came home frustrated that I thinking I got nothing worthwhile. I was pleasantly surprised that the last few shots of a few old cranes came out ok.

I was going to browse a few landscape photographers site today but instead decided to check out what some other 365ers are up to. There’s some impressive stuff being posted. I could compile a list but there is no point in reinventing the wheel so check out a few other 365ers from the list on Tasra365.
