Trip to the UK

April 28, 2010 1 comment

Here a few from the past few days. I have been very bad at keeping this 365 going. I’ve found it very hard to take a image every day, possibly because I’m really only interested in landscapes. I should have gone for a project52, one for each weekend.

I’m not sure if I’m improving but think my keeper hit rate is getting a bit better.

Day 115 – Youghal Beach

A few minutes after taking this shot I locked my keys in the car. At least I had my camera to keep me busy while I waited to be rescued.

I spotted this branch on the beach so threw it in the tidal zone a few times to get this result.

Day 50

I guess this image may have shocked, upset or even offended some of you. Sorry but I have been thinking of a pretty disturbing project that I feel I need to do soon. Some time ago an area on the outskirts of Cork was known as the suicide capital. I think if people were a bit more open about it then maybe it wouldn’t happen as much, but hey I’m not an expert on the subject. It’s a very taboo subject and very much a whisper topic when it happens to a family you know. I’m sure I’ll loose some visitors to the blog over this image but so be it.

Don’t worry people there will be a day 51 for me……

Manual Reading

I read a few pages of the manual today 54-58. Setting image recording quality, About RAW, ISO.

Professional Photographers Images Studied

As I only discovered the work of Adam Burton yesterday I decided to spend some more time looking at his fantastic landscape images.

Day 29 – Work to a deadline

October 19, 2009 Leave a comment

So todays image is of a water drop. After yesterdays post about not being in a rush I thought what if I was under orders to get a job done. I gave myself 45 minutes to setup, shoot and edit an image today. I’ve shot drop before so the setup was familiar but it was still a bit of a push to get theĀ  images made in the time allowed. This was the image I liked the most.

Manual Reading

I had a quick read the rest of page 34, Holding the camera.

Professional Photographers Images Studied

I must admit I spent more time trying to remember my old flickr account than studying todays photographer. Today I very quickly looked through some of the work of Joey Lawrence.

Day 28 – Don’t be in a rush

October 18, 2009 Leave a comment

Today I went and had a look around the Ownabue Valley with my nine year old niece. I grew up there so it was nice to go back to some of the places I used to go fishing in as a child. The lesson I learned today was not to rush my images. The one above should have been a great but I was under orders from my niece that we needed to go home soon. Oh well it will keep for another day.

Manual Reading

I mentioned yesterday that I was loosing track of what I had read since the project began so I went back to the start of the book, glossed over a few pages and then read a piece of page 34, Adjusting the Viewfinder Quality. I had forgotten what that knob was called – “the dioptric adjustment knob”.

Professional Photographers Images Studied

I looked through the abstract images of UK photographer Tony Howell. I used to love taking abstract images when I started out but found it hard to get critiques so kind of gave it up. I still take some now but not nearly as much as I did (all of 2 years ago).

Day 18 – A drop in the sink

October 8, 2009 Leave a comment

I tried a bit of water drop photography today but I wasn’t that happy with the results. The task was performed in the kitchen sink and involved a bit of mopping up afterward. I tried this water drop photography about 2 years ago when I first got my hands on a camera and I was much more impressed with the results I got then. I seem to be going backwards with this not improving.

Manual Reading

I’m continuing on with white balance and today read page 66, Custom Whit Balance. I use this when I’m practicing product photography and sometimes if I’m doing some still life stuff without flash and have a mixture of different ambient light types. That’s not very often though.

Professional Photographers Images Reviewed

I kind of just happened to do this today without any planning. I was looking in the phone book for physio and what happed to be on the opposite page but photographer listings. Before I knew it I had forgotten about the physio and was on my iphone browsing the websites of some of the photographers. I’m not going to name them as to be honest I don’t know how some of them get any clients with their site or even lack there of. There’s hope for me yet if.

Some of the other drips
